Students must earn 26.5 credits to graduate. In addition, students must accumulate 16 core credits in the following: Math, Science, English, Social Studies and/or Foreign Language.

• 4 credits of Theology
• 4 credits of English
• 3 credits of Mathematics
• 3 credits of Science
• 3 credits of Social Studies
• 1 credit of Fine Arts
• 1 credit of Physical Education
• 1 credit of Technology
• 1/2 credit Communication Arts
• 1/2 credit Personal Finance (beginning with the Class of 2028)
• 4-6 credits Electives

Please Note:

• The Christian Service Program is part of the Religion Department’s graduation requirement.
• Electives may be taken in any subject.
• A course counts toward elective credits once a student has earned the required number of credits in a given subject.

Dear Junior and Senior Student and Parent:

You are entering an exciting period of your life! The transition from high school to college is filled with opportunity and decision making. Selecting a group of colleges to apply to and determining the college you will attend is a complex and challenging task. But it can be rewarding, growth producing, and satisfying. A successful college search requires time, thought, organization, action and a sense of perspective. This college planning booklet is intended to help you through the process.

Because the process of selecting a college is very personal, it begins with self-reflection. In fact, discovering who you are, what you like, and what makes you happy is probably the most significant result of the process. Your friends, teachers, and counselor are valuable resources, but your best advisers are your parents. Listen to them. In the end, however, you must make your own decision.

Consider many qualities about yourself: your goals, strengths and weaknesses, and reasons for going to college. Then select the criteria you will use in choosing which college to explore:

• What is your tentative choice of a major?
• Do you want to attend a small college or a large university?
• A two-year or four-year program?
• Do you want to be in the Midwest, North, South, East, West?
• In an urban, suburban or rural location?
• What extracurricular activities are most important to you?
• What is your budget?

Discuss these items with your counselor in relation to your academic profile. The result of this discussion creates a reasonable list of colleges or other programs that might meet most of your criteria.

Talk with others about your future plans, but remember you must take ownership of your own future. We encourage you to begin the process early to take advantage of optimum opportunities. To help you consider a variety of college options, the counseling service at Bishop Miege provides:

• Group and individual counseling sessions

Beyond the graduation requirements, students can choose to meet additional qualifications:

Kansas Regents Qualified Admissions:

• A student’s three math credits must go through Algebra II or higher.
• A student’s three science credits must include Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Physical Science.

Kansas Scholars:

• A student must take Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
• A student’s four math credits must include Algebra II plus one higher course.
• A student must take two years of the same world language.
