Bishop Miege Girls Soccer Program Makes History with Ninth Consecutive State Championship

According to KSHSAA, no other team sport in state history has ever won nine straight championships — a milestone that speaks volumes about the dedication, consistency, and resilience of our program.

For the ninth year in a row, the Bishop Miege girls soccer team is bringing home a State Championship — and this one may be the most unforgettable yet.

In an epic battle against Hayden Catholic on Saturday, our girls rallied from behind and delivered a double-overtime 2-1 victory to secure the program’s 10th overall title and a record-breaking ninth consecutive State Championship.

A storybook finish in Wichita in double overtime

Trailing 0-1 for nearly 55 minutes, it looked like the streak might come to an end. But with just 13 minutes left in regulation, senior Kristina Erskine stepped up and buried a penalty kick to level the score and ignite the comeback.

In an incredible twist, the game ended almost exactly like last year’s final with another header off a corner kick in double overtime, on the same field, just the opposite goal. This time, senior Rowan Epps rose to the moment, heading the game-winner from a corner by sophomore Gaby Calderon.

A legacy of excellence with nine straight championships

According to KSHSAA, no other team sport in state history has ever won nine straight championships — a milestone that speaks volumes about the dedication, consistency, and resilience of our program. With its 10th State Championship overall, the Stags are also tied for the second most in Kansas history.

This year’s title is not just a testament to talent, but to the grit and belief our players carried onto the field. In the fierce matchup with Hayden Catholic, every minute mattered, and the team never lost faith in one another.

A program built on belief

This season also marks the final chapter for eight extraordinary seniors who have been a part of the team since their freshman year and have led both on and off the field: Kennedy Ashley, Caroline Bock, Addie Duckers, Rowan Epps, Kristina Erskine, Clare Hansen, Naomi Harris, and Rose Lopez. Their leadership, passion, and perseverance have left a lasting legacy.

Throughout the season, the team scored 85 goals, which is a single season record. The Stags also won nine games in a row to finish the season, which is the second best win streak in program history.

“Our girls just kept believing in themselves and each other until we finally scored the tying goal and then went on to get the game winner,” head coach Nate Huppe said.

Moments like this remind us what makes Bishop Miege special with our commitment to excellence, to one another, and to writing history together. We’re incredibly grateful to our coaching staff, student-athletes, families, and supporters who make seasons like this possible.

Congratulations to our 2025 State Champions, the Bishop Miege Girls Soccer team!
