Finding something more in the ordinary
There were tacos for lunch. Students love them, the rice on the side and the hot sauce that goes with them. Before the first lunch, I grabbed a clean rag and spray to wipe down the tables in between lunches. Everything looked just right, tables shiny and chairs in order. Twenty-two minutes later, it was a completely different picture. Did the students eat the tacos or leave half of them on the table?
As I started wiping down the tables again, I was struck with gratitude, gratitude for students gathered together, laughter filling the room, and the opportunity to serve in such a simple, ordinary way.
In that moment, I was reminded that this is what life is, starting new not just every morning, but every moment. Yes, even cleaning tables became a spiritual moment for me.
Moments that pass quickly, but matter deeply
My thoughts continued throughout the day. I reflected on how incredibly our students did during their Junior Led Conferences on Holy Thursday, each one presenting their journey so far at Miege to a parent and teacher. Hours of preparation, nerves leading up to it, and then, in what felt like a moment, it was complete, and they were already moving forward. God is in the mix, He truly is.
I thought of a senior who shared that when he first came to Miege, he knew nothing about faith or even what a Theology class was. He simply wanted to make friends. Now, as graduation approaches, it is his faith that he will carry with him into the world. I also thought of our robotics team, pouring their energy and precision into every competition, knowing that every tiny bolt and adjustment matters.
I found myself thinking about our juniors who ran for Herd leadership positions, the soul searching they did, the hours they poured into their videos and speeches, and the courage it took to put themselves out there. The announcement of the results came quickly, but just as quickly came the support from adults reminding them that leadership is not defined by one election and that their journey continues.
God was still working in each of those moments. As I reflected, I realized there are so many moments like these, quiet and powerful reminders of God at work all around us each day.
Made new, again and again, into something more
This Easter season reminds us that the Resurrection is not just something we celebrate, it is an invitation to keep finding something more, even in the most ordinary moments. As Scripture tells us, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end, they are new every morning, great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22–23). Each day and each moment, God is making things new.
In the ordinary rhythms of our lives, the preparation, the mess, the joy, and even the cleanup, His grace is present. If we pause and simply whisper the name of Jesus, we begin to see that every breath, every interaction, and every small act of service holds the possibility of a miracle.
I was reminded of this while preparing for Easter, setting the table all day Saturday, only for the meal to be shared in fifteen short minutes, followed by dishes, napkins, and the mess left behind. Yet every part of it, the preparation, the gathering, and the cleanup, was a gift. Every moment, a quiet miracle.
As we move through this Easter season and toward the end of the school year, I want you to know how proud we are of our students, especially our seniors. They are finishing strong, carrying with them not only academic knowledge, but a deeper sense of who they are and who God is calling them to be. It is a privilege to walk alongside them, and with you, as we witness these everyday miracles unfold.
