A reunion gift that opens doors
A Class Reunion Scholarship that Defines the Stag Legacy
In celebration of its 50th reunion, the Bishop Miege Class of 1975 came together to create a $100,000 class reunion scholarship gift that will open doors for future Stags for generations to come. Their remarkable gift to the Bridge to the Future Scholarship Endowment will permanently support two endowed scholarships: the Class of 1975 Scholarship and the Len Mohlman & Gene Clohecy Scholarship.
How a Class Reunion Scholarship was Born
With encouragement from the Class of 1975 Reunion Gift Committee — Joe Gladbach, Phil Moran, and Mary Ellen Schofield Winter — and the Reunion Chairs, Chris Bedord Morgan and Sally Kearns Keating, the planning team saw an opportunity to channel the joy of reunion weekend into meaningful support for current families.
“We sought out classmates from the Class of 1975 who were excited about the reunion and the opportunity to spend time with good friends,” Class of ‘75 member Joe Gladbach said. “We thought the atmosphere would allow the fundraising to be a secondary, but nonetheless, important part of the reunion weekend.”
The group set an ambitious “50 for 50” goal in a short amount of time, believing that shared memories and renewed connections would help fuel the effort to raise $50,000. What followed far exceeded anything they expected.
“What happened was that we substantially underestimated the generosity of our classmates,” Gladbach said. “Collectively, we were able to raise $100,000 to fund two Bridge To The Future endowment scholarships for future Miege students. This was the largest gift by a reunion class by a wide margin.”
Momentum through Reunion Weekend
As the reunion weekend approached, the class was steadily closing in on its target. Then, in a remarkable act of generosity, two anonymous classmates were moved to contribute an additional $50,000 — doubling the momentum and inspiring others to finish strong. On Saturday evening of the reunion weekend, the group was still $5,500 short, prompting one final rally in which classmates increased pledges and gave on the spot.
“We called on our classmates to step up and take us over the top, which is exactly what they did,” Gladbach said. “Some added to existing pledges, while others dug in their pockets for cash. The result takes us another step closer to our Bridge To The Future goal.”
From classmates to changemakers
An Alumni Legacy Scholarship Honoring Educators: Len Mohlman & Gene Clohecy
These scholarships not only strengthen tuition assistance for families, but they also honor educators and coaches who shaped the Class of ’75. The Len Mohlman & Gene Clohecy Scholarship recognizes their coaches, whose leadership made a deep and lasting impact on the students they guided. Members of the class also highlighted other teachers, like Mr. Ken Perry, whose guidance and mentorship shaped their journey.
“The 50th Reunion provided a time to reflect a little and find a way to thank some of the people and places who have helped along the way. Miege was a key part. Looking back on a lot of years of school, the best teacher I had was a math and physics teacher Mr. Ken Perry. I hope the Class of ’75 Scholarship fund helps a few other students experience excellent guidance and teachers to help them on their life journey.” – Phil Moran, Class of 1975

Turning milestones into student futures
A Legacy that Inspires Future Classes
The milestone gift added to an already spirited All Stags Reunion weekend, with nearly 300 alumni and guests returning to campus. The Class of ’75 took a well-deserved moment of recognition before the Homecoming game against St. Pius, a reminder of the impact they’ve had on generations of Stags.
The impact of their leadership is already extending beyond their own class. The Class of ’76 is now preparing a fundraising effort, fulfilling the Class of 1975’s hope that their gift would inspire others to invest in the next generation of Bishop Miege students.
“Fifty years later, the Class of 1975 didn’t just remember their time at Bishop Miege; they decided to define its future,” Vice President of Advancement Amy Meara said. “Their generosity, culminating in this record-breaking class gift, proves that our greatest legacy isn’t the buildings we stand in, but the students we lift up.”
