How One Year at Miege Transformed My Perspective as a Parent
“One year, one school, one community can change everything.”
By: Erin Cronin, Class of ’04 and Current Parent
This time last year, I was overwhelmed with anxiety. My oldest, Leo, was about to graduate 8th grade, and the thought of high school filled me with a quiet dread I couldn’t shake. It wasn’t just nerves — it felt like a sense of doom I couldn’t explain.
As a school counselor, I knew it was irrational. But as a mom who lost both of her parents young, the idea of my children growing up triggered something deep and painful in me. It felt like another goodbye I wasn’t ready for.
A second time through, with new eyes
Tonight, I attended Freshman Night for my second child, Killian, and the difference in how I feel is night and day.
What changed? It wasn’t just time. It was Bishop Miege.
As a Miege alum, I already knew this school was special. But experiencing it now as a parent has deepened my appreciation. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were met with warmth, intention, and faith. The teachers and staff at Miege aren’t just educators — they’re ministers of love, growth, and formation. They see the whole child, and they make families feel seen, too.
This school truly transformed our outlook
Instead of fear, I now feel peace. Instead of dread, I feel excitement. I can finally see high school not as a loss of innocence, but as the next chapter — one full of growth, discovery, and joy.
To anyone else facing a transition that feels heavy or scary: give yourself time — and trust in the right community. Growth is uncomfortable, but perspective comes. Healing happens. And sometimes … one year, one school, one community can change everything.
“Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
