Herd System
Herd is an all encompassing way of structuring student life: faith development, academics, service, student leadership, and school spirit.
The Herd System empowers every student to embrace their God-given potential for leadership and community impact. Through this structure, students grow in their personal faith, foster deeper connections with peers and faculty, and take an active role in shaping the Miege experience.

SERVICE

A Community System that Creates Belonging
Faith-Focused Community
To support these values, each student is placed in a multi-grade Faith Family of about 20 students, led by a faculty mentor who journeys with them throughout their four years at Miege. These Faith Families regularly meet to pray, serve, and grow together.
Faith Families are grouped into Herds with four Faith Families constituting a Herd. Each Herd is named in honor of eight notable Bishop Miege faculty members whose legacies serve as models for our three core values of faith, community, and service.
Belonging Through Relationships
The purpose of Herd is to ensure that every student feels a sense of belonging from the moment they enter Bishop Miege. By being placed in a Herd and a Faith Family, students form a unique and personal connection with their fellow students. Each student is supported by the four mentor teachers in their Herd, who will be there to guide them throughout their high school journey.
Herd ensures that every student is connected to the school community and fosters relationships across all grade levels. These connections help students feel valued and supported as they navigate their academic, spiritual, and social growth.
Dynamic Student Leadership
Herd creates intentional leadership opportunities at every grade level. Each Faith Family is led by a senior Captain and supported by underclass deputies, forming a team that encourages student voice and active participation.
At the Herd level, a senior Executive Leader represents their group on the Herd Executive Council, which is a body of student leaders that collaborates with school administration to organize school-wide events, lead service initiatives, and enhance the spiritual and social life of our student body.

Journey to the 2025 Ursuline Cup Shows Power of Miege’s Herd System
I will forever remember Mr. Bohaty meeting all of us after we won the 2025 Ursuline Cup. I am so thankful that I came to Miege and was put into a family that I always know I can count on.
