Explore Our Innovative PLTW Pathways

Our Project Lead The Way (PLTW) program offers three distinct pathways designed to prepare students for future success in a rapidly evolving world.

Computer Science Pathway

Our Computer Science pathway introduces students to the foundational concepts of computing, programming, and data analysis, equipping them with the skills needed for the digital age. The three classes available are Computer Science Essentials, AP Computer Science Principles, and AP Computer Science A.

Engineering Pathway

The Engineering pathway provides hands-on experience with design and problem-solving, encouraging students to innovate and create solutions to real-world challenges. The four courses available are Introduction to Engineering & Design, Honors Principles of Engineering, Honors Aerospace Engineering, or Honors Civil Engineering & Architecture.

Biomedical Science Pathway

Through the Biomedical Science pathway, students explore the intricacies of human biology and medical research, preparing them for careers in healthcare and scientific research. The three courses available are Principles of Biomedical Science, Human Body Systems, and Honors Medical Interventions.

Honors PLTW Capstone Class

The PLTW Capstone course is the culmination of the three pathways. In this dynamic, hands-on class, students apply the knowledge and skills they’ve gained throughout their PLTW experience to tackle a meaningful problem of their choosing. The year concludes with a public showcase, where students present their final projects to peers, professionals, and the wider community.

Joseph Michael Pedrotti Innovation Center

The Joseph Michael Pedrotti Innovation Center serves as the heart of this transformative learning environment. This space is where students transform ideas into reality, bridging education with real-world applications. The Innovation Center consists of two spaces: 

  1. The Project Studio
  2. The Engineering Lab

Project Studio: A Hub of Creativity

The Project Studio at Bishop Miege High School serves as a dynamic maker space where students from various disciplines converge to bring their ideas to life. This innovative environment supports a wide range of projects, from English and Theology to Art and Calculus, enabling students to explore and connect with their curriculum in tangible ways. The studio is equipped with cutting-edge tools that empower students to experiment, collaborate, and create, fostering a spirit of innovation and discovery.

Robotics Excellence: Meet Team 1997

Since its founding in 2007, our Robotics team — Team 1997 — has embodied innovation, collaboration, and competitive drive. This year, the students hard work paid off with a standout, award-winning season at both the Central Missouri and Greater Kansas City Regionals.

Solving Real-World Problems

This year’s competition, themed Reefscape, challenged teams to design robots capable of completing underwater-inspired tasks. From harvesting algae to scoring coral and resurfacing, each task tested creativity, engineering, and teamwork under pressure.

Creativity Award for Design Innovation

At the Greater Kansas City Regional, the team was recognized with the prestigious Creativity Award for the robot’s innovative dual-shooter coral scoring system. This marks only the second robot-specific award in team history, a huge achievement for the team. 

Team Spirit Award for Energetic Collaboration

At the Central Missouri Regional, Team 1997 stood out among 36 teams from across the U.S. and Mexico to bring home the Team Spirit Award — a tribute to the energy, sportsmanship, and Miege pride they brought to every match.

More Than a Competition

Robotics at Miege is more than just building a robot, but it’s about leadership, problem-solving, and running a small business. Team 1997  represents the Stags throughout the community, sharing the joy of innovation and creativity. 

Turning Ideas into Impact

ACE Mentors Design Winners

Four of our students spent an evening downtown presenting a semester-long design for a Kansas City soccer complex to a panel of professional architects and engineers and were unanimously named Overall Design Winners. Throughout the semester, they developed a full proposal from site studies to exterior renderings.

KC STEM Alliance

Students presented their capstone projects at the Project Lead the Way Showcase at Union Station, organized by the KC Stem Alliance. Highlights included students’ ideas for a redesigned water spout with improved accessibility and a low-cost, reusable drinking fountain water filter. 

KC Invention Convention

In Bishop Miege’s first year competing, seniors Sophia Craig and Alessandra Ledesma earned second place at the KC Invention Convention among 400+ projects. Their innovation, Releaf Paint, impressed judges at Linda Hall Library with its sustainable approach to art materials.
